International Literacy Day 2020

 

Yesterday, September 8, marked International Literacy Day.by The United Nations Education Scientific & Cultural Organisation. This means that every year, September is declared Literacy month. It also means that our reading time should heighten this month. 

And perhaps, you are not an avid reader like myself and all others who are addicted to books, it is still very possible to develop the culture of reading. Try reading for 10 minutes daily . It could be just reading the daily newspaper or just anything readable that you can google up quickly on your mobile device. If you can do this six days in a row, it becomes a habit. Then, you can grow your reading life from there. 

Stick with materials that are simple and can grip your interest. And as you do this, you will find yourself wanting to explore more complex reading materials and books.

So, for our bookclub this month, I have chosen two books for our reading delight off the Goodreads Platform. You can log on to: goodreads.com to get your copies. These are:

Don’t Look For Me by Wendy Walker, a Mystery &Thriller.

Tools Of Engagement by Tessa Bailey, a Romance Fiction.

I just got an email from Good reads with new book releases for the month of August, and I perused the titles on the fiction, non-fiction, young adult, children’s, History &Biography; Memoirs & Autobiography; Mystery & Thriller, Romance, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Graphic Novels & Comics. I must say the titles this month are engaging. World Book Day!

It's #WorldBookDay today, and for avid reading enthusiasts like myself and many other readers in the  reading and writing community world wide,  we get to celebrate books today. April 23, is the day that The United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has set aside to promote books, writers and copyright issues. And it is also no coincidence that this online book club is being launched though informally today too. This means we have entered the season of books and incessant reading again. I'm a keen observer of times and seasons, and by the Grace of God I move accordingly.
